The young girl was lured away from her family, who were in a park in the village. The attack took place at around midday on Saturday, September 18 and police are asking anyone with information to assist in their investigation.
The child was “momentarily lured” into a nearby wooded area by a boy in the area near Rowheath Park in Bournville, where she was sexually assaulted.
Police were informed after the victim confided in her mum about the assault when they were returning home from the park.
Officers are appealing for information on the boy involved in the incident which has been described as “awful” by the force.
The boy involved is described as being aged between 12-16 with blond hair and was wearing a blue jacket and jeans.
Permission was sought from the victim’s family before the appeal was launched, and they are receiving support from the police following the incident.
West Midlands Police said: “An investigation is underway, including forensics, a trawl of nearby CCTV and we’re speaking to people in the area.
“We’re increasing patrols to offer reassurance.
“We’re asking for your help – did you see anyone matching this description in the area earlier today?”
Police are urging anyone intending to visit the park to be “aware and alert”, and to get in touch if they have any information which can assist the probe.
Detective Inspector Matt Stone, from the public protection unit, added: “Fortunately awful incidents like this are extremely rare.
“We’re supporting the young girl and her family and have sought their permission to share what has happened today as we urgently need to find the boy involved.
