Seven injured as double-decker bus crashes into railway bridge in Swansea

At least seven people have been hurt, including one seriously, after a double-decker university bus crashed into a railway bridge in Swansea.

A 63-year-old man has been arrested following the incident in Neath Road just before 9.40am on Thursday, South Wales Police has said.

The bus company, First Cymru, said a full investigation had been launched.

Managing director Andrew Sherrington added: “We can confirm one of our vehicles operating service 10 between Swansea University Singleton Campus and Swansea Bay University Campus has been involved in a collision with a bridge, which has resulted in a number of passengers sustaining injuries.

“Everyone at First Cymru is shocked by this incident and our heartfelt sympathies go out to those injured.”

Four people were taken to Swansea’s Morriston Hospital, one with serious injuries. Two more were sent to Neath Port Talbot’s minor injuries unit, and a number of others were assessed at the scene.

One person was airlifted to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with life-threatening injuries.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “The road remains closed and we are asking people to avoid the area at this time.
