Seven people have been taken into custody after a mass brawl broke out on a London Underground train between Manchester City and Liverpool fans.

Violence broke out at Great Portland Street station at around 2pm yesterday afternoon.

Supporters of Manchester City and Liverpool, in London for the Community Shield match at Wembley, were in the station at the time.

Footage emerged showing the two groups of football fans throwing punches at one another at the station.

A Liverpool fan, was seen with blood on his face being dragged out of the carriage into a mob of City followers who kicked and punched his face.

Manchester beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

In a chaotic scene the supporters charge in and out of the doorway swinging wildly.

Thousands of Liverpool and City fans have been heading to Wembley for the game.

The video was posted on Twitter by an actor Stephen Patten and has been shared thousands of times.

British Transport Police has confirmed it is investigating the clash.

A spokesperson said: ‘BTP officers were called at 2.02pm following a report of a large fight at Great Portland Street Station, London.

‘The fight is reported to have involved football fans.

‘Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

‘Officers are working to identify those involved and at this time no injuries have been reported to the police.’
