Serving Met Police officer charged with rape
A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape.
PC Ireland Murdock is alleged to have committed an offence on September 25, 2021.
The incident was reported to have happened in Lambeth, south London, according to a statement from the force.
Mr Murdock was not on duty at the time of the alleged offence.
He is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court later today.
The officer is attached to the Central North Command Unit but has been suspended from the force pending the investigation.
He was first arrested on January 11, 2022, according to the Met.
The force’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed of the development.
The police watchdog – the Independent Office for Police Conduct – has also been made aware.
A Met spokesperson said the victim is being supported by specialist officers.
