Seagull trapped in Asda store for two weeks foils attempts to catch it
A seagull has been trapped inside an Asda for 14 days, evading all attempts to catch it. The bird has been flapping about above the heads of shoppers at the branch in Bedminster, Bristol, since the start of the month.
The gull has been spotted in the beams and sat on top of shelves at the store peering down at shoppers, including in the egg and fish aisles.
Workers and a specialist rescue team have made several attempts to catch it, spending nights when the shop is shut attempting to free the stricken creature.
Customers at one of Asda’s biggest shops in Britain started tweeting pictures of the bird after it apparently walked straight through the front door.
The shop’s staff are doing regular deep cleans and have tried a number of things to catch it safely, including by leaving trails of food and using a cherry picker to catch it, but without success.
One worker said: “He seems quite happy up there, but we are worried about him.
“He uses the sloped ventilation as a slide sometimes.”
A spokesperson for Asda said: “Our team at Asda Bedminster have attempted to safely remove the bird and to ensure the store remains clean and tidy throughout.
“Despite their best efforts, the seagull remains in store and we are now working with specialist contractors to remove the bird.”
