Lesley Riddoch, broadcaster and journalist, says it was a “misstep” to allow Scottish fans to travel to London to watch the football game on June 18 as Scotland is now seeing a spike in cases. In Tayside, Scotland, young people are urged to get vaccinated amid a surge in cases in hopes to slow the spread of Covid in the region.

Tayside has the highest rate of cases in Scotland and is one of the worst affected places in Europe.

The number of Covid patients in the region is the highest it has been since February.

Ms Riddoch said that “it’s puzzling” that people were allowed to travel during the BBC2 Newsnight programme.

Wembley has been welcoming around 60,000 fans for the past two matches.

However, the England-Scotland match held a much smaller crowd of 22,500.

Public Health Scotland released figures following the match – a total of 1,991 people tested positive after attending one or more Euro 2020 events.

In this period they “may have unknowingly transmitted their infection to others”.

Only 397 of these reported figures were actually at Wembley.

However, that represents 15 percent of the 2,600 Scotland fans in the stadium.

Currently, there is no data available about how many England fans have tested positive following a Euro 2020 event.

The shadow sports minister, Alison McGovern, said data should be produced soon.

“If they have the data they should publish it, and if they don’t have it, they should say why,” she said.

Data about how many English fans have tested positive is expected to be published in mid-July.
