Scale of coronavirus in London 'weeks ahead' of the rest of the country

Boris Johnson has said London appeared to be ‘a few weeks ahead’ of other areas in terms of the scale of coronavirus.

He has urged people in the capital to pay special attention to the social distancing measures announced by the government today, including home working and avoiding non-essential contact.

At a press conference today, the PM called on the nation to contact and avoid clubs, pubs, theatres and all unnecessary travel as the coronavirus outbreak accelerates towards the fast growth phase.

‘Now is the time for everyone to stop non essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel’ Johnson told reporters outside Downing Street.

‘We need people to start working from home where they possibly can. And you should avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues.

‘It looks as though we are now approaching the fast growth part of the upward curve and without drastic action cases could double every 5 or 6 day’ Johnson said.
