Sarah Ferguson’s tumultuous year from cancer battle to friend’s tragic death
Sarah Ferguson has experienced, what can only be described as, a roller coaster of a year.
The former royal, who is also known as Fergie, was previously married to Prince Andrew and is mother of his two daughters.
Although she has had some very exciting moments in 2023, such as the birth of her third grandchild, Sarah has experienced turbulent moments.
Amid the turmoil of King Charles’ Coronation back in May, as well as the ongoing tensions with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Sarah revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Duchess of York shared the news in June, adding that her diagnosis came after a routine check-up.

The 64-year-old underwent a gruelling eight-hour operation at London’s King Edward VIII’s Hospital earlier that month.
Her concerns began when a routine check-up detected something was wrong, shortly before the King’s Coronation in May.
In early May, Sarah attended an appointment in London for a mammogram and, despite expecting the all-clear, the technician explained that a “shadow” could be seen in the breast.
At the time of her sharing the news, Sarah explained that, due to the size of the area, a lumpectomy was ruled out.

She then said that she had been strongly advised to opt for a single mastectomy, with her telling friends that she had “no choice” but to go ahead.
The Duchess of York was then known to have been recovering at Royal Lodge, the home she shares with her ex-husband.
As well as dealing with her health, Sarah has also been concerned that the maintenance costs of her and Andrew’s multi-million-pound home could force them to move out.
Despite no longer being married to the late Queen’s second son, Sarah and Andrew have remained close.

Sarah also experienced the loss of a friend, Friends actor Matthew Perry, last month.
The royal, who had a cameo on US comedy Friends in the 1990s, shared a picture of herself with the late actor and fellow star Matt LeBlanc on her Instagram account – as well as one with the whole cast.
The caption on Sarah’s post read: “I remember being thrilled to have met a natural talent, comedian and brilliant actor.
“It is a tragedy to lose you so early in life, rest in peace dear Matthew … you have given so much joy and laughter to so many.”
As well as the birth of her third grandchild – and second grandson – Ernest in May, Sarah also launched her podcast ‘Tea Talks with Duchess and Sarah’, with her co-host, and friend, Sarah Jane Thomson.
