Sarah Ferguson’s heartbreaking Prince Charles confession revealed

Sarah Ferguson – affectionately known as Fergie – married Prince Andrew in their spectacular 1986 royal wedding. They welcomed Princess Beatrice in 1988 and Princess Eugenie in 1990, and although the pair would go on to separate in 1992, remain close. Royal fans are looking forward to seeing the Duke and Duchess of York out in force once again for Beatrice’s royal wedding, as she is set to marry her beau Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi next year.

Indeed, many have supposed that Fergie’s renewed presence in the Royal Family’s circles may indicate a softening in the Palace’s attitude, which famously froze her out at the height of her scandalous 1992 separation from the prince.

The Duchess wrote her autobiography “My Story” in 1996, releasing it just after her divorce from Andrew that year.

In it, she spoke about how, despite all the scandals and fallings-out that had beset her relationships with the Royal Family, she still held a great deal of affection for Prince Charles.

Fergie wrote: “I always thought Charles an extraordinary person.

“He was a very good friend to me then; we found the same things funny, made each other laugh.

“We don’t see each other any more, and I miss him more than he knows.”

Fergie’s reflection on the Prince of Wales came after she recounted an incident where Charles stepped in to save her after a skiing accident.

She writes: “One morning in March 1988, when I was four months pregnant with our first child, I somehow skied into a stream and fell head-first.

“I chipped the hangman’s bone in my neck, and for a second fell unconscious.

“To my great good fortune, the Prince of Wales was close by and jumped in to rescue me.

“As his boots filled with icy water, Charles pulled my head clear.

“‘Come on, Fergie, you can do it,’ he kept saying, until I regained my wits.”

Although the Duchess of York and Prince of Wales have been photographed at the same events together, notably Princess Eugenie’s wedding last year, it is not clear whether the two are on friendly terms once more.

Indeed, it was reported this April that Charles was none too happy about reports of Fergie’s rekindled royal romance with his brother Prince Andrew.

A source close to Prince Charles told The Sun: “Charles is not OK with Fergie. He can’t stand her in reality.”

However, the Duchess’ famously fractious relationship with the Duke of Edinburgh may be have entered a ceasefire, according to the newspaper.

Reporter Dan Wooton wrote: “Friends say Philip simply ‘doesn’t care’ any more if Andrew and Fergie are officially reunited.”
