Sarah Ferguson lets slip that she is going through a ‘big change’ on her own

Sarah Ferguson calls Prince Andrew a 'good, kind man'

Sarah Ferguson has said her rehabilitation following her breast cancer operation is going well but said she is going through a “big change” on her new podcast.

The Duchess of York told her Tea Talks podcast, released on Thursday, that life is different for her at the moment as the two daughters she shares with Prince Andrew and their children are on holiday.

Princess Beatrice, who has a daughter Sienna and step-son Wolfie, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi were spotted in Saint Tropez, France this week. Fergie also revealed that Princess Beatrice, who welcomed her second child Ernest in May, is taking a break with her family in Portugal.

Although she said she is feeling her grandchildren’s absence, the 63-year-old grandmother of four said she has the dogs to keep her company.

She also shared how she is rehabilitating “well”, kicking back by watching historical dramas, Downton Abbey and The Gilded Age.

Fergie underwent an eight-hour single mastectomy and reconstructive surgery at the King Edward VII’s Hospital in London last month after she was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram.

The Duchess, who is famously close to her daughters and sons-in-law, is also a hands-on grandmother. In light of her diagnosis, the entire family has reportedly rallied around her in support.

Speaking to her co-host and friend Sarah Thomson, Fergie said: “Talking about change, Eugenie has gone with August and the baby to Portugal and of course, Beatrice is on summer holidays with her children.

“So there’s a bit of a big change. I’m walking around trying to find toys which are left loitering around…The reason why it’s a big change of course is my grandchildren are not here…”

However, Fergie said she has got her “doggies” to keep her company. The Duchess has seven in total, having inherited two of the late Queen Elizabeth’s corgis, Sandy and Muick.

She continued: “I’m healing and I’m starting to feel better. And yes, I decided that [Downton Abbey creator] Julian and Emma Fellows should be my next recipe for healing.”

She said that after watching hit drama series starring Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville, she moved on to the Gilded Age which was a source of inspiration.

The Duchess recounted how it had inspired her to consider how change was inevitable as she added: “Change is as good as a rest they say, don’t they?”
