Sarah Ferguson cries ‘tears of joy’ at Princess Beatrice engagement to Edoardo

The Duchess of York spoke of her mother’s pride said she and ex-husband Prince Andrew are “the luckiest people ever” to have Mr Mozzi – known as Edo – as a son in law.

The pair got engaged in Italy earlier this month, thought to be during a trip to Capri before heading to Rome for dress designer Misha Nonoo’s wedding, and will marry next year.

In an emotional Instagram post, Fergie shared a number of black and white images and said: “I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”

She said Princess Eugenie took three colour photographs of the happy couple “as my girls are so close”.

Announcing the news, Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie posted her congratulations on Instragram, saying: “Beabea – wow! I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo.

“It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.”

She sparked a frenzy with royal fans after initially posting the message then quickly deleting it, before repeating the post a few minutes later.

A further four arty black and white images have been shared, taken by Misan Harriman at Royal Lodge, where Sarah lives with ex-husband Prince Andrew.

Misan Harriman said: “Everything clicks when they are together and that’s exactly what my lens captured. It was an honour to observe and document such love.”

Who is Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi?

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is a 34-year-old Italian multi-millionare who has made his money in property development.

The couple are reported to have first got together in November 2018, and became engaged after a trip to Italy earlier this month.

Mozzi has an interior design company, Banda Property, with specialises in finding and developing expensive homes for rich clients.

The first husband of his mother is Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi.

Mozzi is the step-son of the late Christopher Shale, who died of natural causes at Glastonbury Festival in 2011, and was a friend of ex-PM David Cameron.

Mozzi is also the co-founder of a charity Cricket Builds Hope, which teaches the sport in Rwanda. CONTINUE READING

In a joint statement with Prince Andrew, the Duke and Duchess of York said: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

Mr Mapelli Mozzi’s parents, Nikki Williams-Ellis and Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, added: “We are truly delighted about Edoardo’s and Beatrice’s engagement. The family have known Beatrice for most of her life.

“Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see. They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

Mr Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Beatrice have known each other since childhood.

Mr Mapelli Mozzi, a property magnate and son of a Winter Olympics skier, designed Beatrice’s ring himself, alongside British jewellery designer Shaun Leane.

The happy couple said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

Beatrice also posted a rare tweet, saying: “I’m so excited to announce my engagement to Edo.”

It is thought the couple will follow in Eugenie’s footsteps and wed in St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Eugenie wed Jack Brooksbank in October 2018 after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wed in May at the same church.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor also wed Tom Kingston at the chapel in 2019.

Only the first six people in the line of succession have to obtain the Queen’s permission to marry, but it is likely the monarch would have been among the first to be told by her granddaughter of the impending nuptials.

Mr Mapelli Mozzi’s stepfather was Christopher Shale, a senior Tory and a close friend of former prime minister David Cameron. He died from heart disease at the Glastonbury Festival in 2011.

Beatrice and her family attended the funeral.

Edoardo has a young son named Wolfie with ex-fiancee Dara Huang.

The princess is said to have begun dating Edoardo after meeting him again at Eugenie’s wedding.
