The mother of a 10-year-old girl found dead at her home has slammed her ex-husband after he released a video statement while on the run.

Sara Sharif was found dead on August 10 at home in Woking, Surrey, the day after her father Urfan and his partner Beinash Batool fled to Pakistan.

Sara’s mother, Olga, has pleaded for the pair to hand themselves into police and explain what happened to her daughter.

On Wednesday the couple released a video statement, in which Ms Batool referred to Sara’s death as an ‘incident’ and said they were afraid of torture if they handed themselves in to Pakistan police.

Ms Batool added she and Mr Sharif are ‘willing to cooperate with the UK authorities and fight our case in court’.

It’s the first time either has appeared or spoken publicly since Sara was found dead.

Olga has now hit out at her ex-husband’s statement, claiming he is ‘making himself into the victim’, the Sun reports.

This week she appeared on Polish television where she said she ‘hardly recognised’ her daughter’s body when she identified Sara at the mortuary.

Olga added: ‘I hope it’s true that they actually want to work with the British police but I’ll believe it when it happens.

‘They say they want to cooperate but it can’t be just on their terms, it has to be in the UK and in British courts.

‘There’s nothing (in the video) about how upset they are or how they are grieving for Sara. It’s like they don’t even care.

‘All they can say is that it’s an incident.

‘If they’re so worried about what the Pakistani police would do, why did they fly to Pakistan and go into hiding?

‘They say there is no food in the house and they can’t feed the kids.

‘But the children would be safe and looked after if they handed themselves in. The only people it would affect are them.

‘They don’t want to put themselves at risk (of being caught) by going out to feed their children. It is a heartless thing to do.

‘All they care about is trying to make themselves the victims.’

Last month, Mr Sharif’s brother Imran claimed Sara had died after falling down the stairs and breaking her neck – but Olga says she doesn’t believe it.

She added: ‘An incident is not the same as an accident. It’s all about them. They know they’re in a corner now that they can’t get out of.

‘They want the world to hear them first to try and get ahead of the truth.’
