Susan Hall told Express.co.uk that the Mayor of London needs to stand up and be counted during the coronavirus crisis. Ms Hall claimed that Mr Khan will not appear on certain TV or radio shows in order to avoid scrutiny from journalists and members of the public.

Ms Hall said: “He has been refusing to come and answer some questions.

“If you look at people like Matt Hancock they are on the television all the time.

“They’re answering very difficult questions from fellow MPs, journalists and members of the public all the time.

“They don’t shy away from that at all.

“The poor man must be worn about because he hasn’t stopped for six weeks.”

She continued: “Khan will go on James O’Brien because it is an easy show to be on for him.

“But he won’t go on Mike Graham or any of the other LBC shows other than James O’Brien.

“He needs to stand up and be counted.

“We need to have confidence that the Mayor has got a grip and if we can’t ask him questions we don’t know if he has got a grip of anything.”

Last week Ms Hall told Express.co.uk that the London Mayor refused her invitation to an oversight meeting despite her offering him any date and time of his choosing.

Mr Khan has not made an appearance at the London Assembly in more than seven weeks but has outlined his intention to appear at Mayor’s Question Time next week.

“So we wanted an oversight meeting and obviously invited him to it.

“We were just put off and put off.

“We even said even if he can only do 30 minutes, you tell us what time he can come, and we will make the whole meeting around that.

“It was you tell us what time you can make it and we will make that the time of the oversight meeting.

“Right at the last minute, at the deadline for letting us know he has said he is too busy to come.”

A spokesperson for Sadiq Khan condemned the comments and explained the Mayor would appear at Mayor’s Question Time next week.

They said: “This national emergency is the wrong time for this kind of petty party politics from the Conservative Party.
