London Mayor Sadiq Khan began laughing as GLA Conservative Tony Arbour asked him where the money is coming from. Speaking at the London Assembly, Mr Khan said: “In the past the Tories have voted against my increasing investment in the police and the announcement today is £55.5million of new money towards tackling violent crime which takes the total amount this year more than £100million towards tackling violent crime.

Tony Arbour asked: “The £55million you have announced today does not include any money from the preset increase which you’ve already announced. It’s entirely new.”

As Mr Arbour began to ask where the new city funds were coming from Mr Khan appeared to laugh.

The GLA Conservative said: “Londoners are entitled to know where this money is coming from.”

The chair of meeting then shut him down.

He said: “You may not like his answers but we have to move on.”
