Royal wedding: Why the groom’s ex-girlfriend Pippa Middleton will be at the wedding
Lady Gabriella Windsor may be 52nd in line to the throne, but she will still have a royal wedding – the third in just one year. The Queen’s first cousin once removed will tie the knot in a toned-down ceremony at St George’s Chapel tomorrow. Despite not being an immediate family member, Queen Elizabeth II will attend Lady Gabriella’s big day, as will a number of other royals.
Pippa Middleton, who is reported to have dated groom Thomas Kingston before he met Gabriella, is a dead cert when it comes to wedding guests, a royal commentator has claimed.
The perceived awkwardness of inviting an ex to one’s wedding was surpassed by Pippa, who invited Lady Gabriella and Tom to her big day in 2017.
Quizzed about whether Pippa would be at the wedding tomorrow royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk there was “no doubt.”
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “Both Thomas and Lady Gabriella attended Pippa’s wedding to James Matthews, so of course they will be invited to the royal wedding in turn – there’s no doubt.”
Lady Gabriella’s big brother Lord Frederick suffered a royal snub when the Queen skipped his wedding in 2009.
So her Majesty’s planned appearance at Lady Gabriella’s big day is a “coup” for the minor royal.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The Queen’s attendance at Lady Gabriella’s wedding is a great coup.
“There’s no question that we’ve had two high profile royal weddings in the past year, but this is different she’s 52nd in line to the throne and doesn’t carry out any royal duties.”
According to Mr Fitzwilliams the Queen’s attendance could be down to the venue as she is yet to miss a royal wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “I think six royal weddings have taken place there during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and she has attended all of them.”
“Dashing” groom Thomas Kingston is a “fascinating” character whose foreign office past will bring some edge to the royal family, Mr Fitzwilliams claimed.
He said: “Most members of the public wouldn’t know who Lady Gabriella is, but she’s marrying a very fascinating man.
“I understand Thomas Kingston was involved in securing the release of hostages in the diplomatic missions unit of the Foreign Office.
“Not much is written about because it’s so sensitive, but he’s clearly a very interesting man.”
Lady Gabriella’s wedding will start at 12pm on May 18.
The service will happen a stone’s throw away from Meghan and Prince Harry’s Frogmore Cottage home.
As baby Archie Harrison is less than two weeks old, he is unlikely to attend the wedding with mum Meghan.
The wedding will not be broadcast live on TV unlike both Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle’s big days.
The ceremony will be conducted by the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend David Conner.
