Royal wedding SHOCK: Gabriella must have ‘stiff upper lip’ if ex Pippa Middleton attends

Lady Gabriella Windsor, 38, is the Queen’s first cousin once removed. The extended royal family member will marry long-term beau Thomas Kingston at St George’s Chapel, Windsor today in the third royal wedding in just a year. The groom’s ex Pippa Middleton is likely to attend the event and Lady Gabriella must have “a stiff upper lip” if she does, a relationship expert has claimed.

Lady Gabriella Windsor and former civil servant Thomas “Tom” Kingston, 40, will be the third royal pair to get married in a year when they celebrate their nuptials today.

The couple, who are believed to have met in 2015, got engaged on the Isle of Sark in August last year.

Their Windsor Castle wedding will attract a plethora of high profile royals, including the Queen herself.

Pippa Middleton is also rumoured to be attending the day, as a long-term friend of the groom’s – the pair used to date before he and Gabriella started going out.

Pippa and Tom are understood to have ended on good terms and are still friends.

Lady Gabriella and Tom attended Pippa’s wedding to James Matthews in 2017, so it’s likely the invitation will be reciprocated.

Inviting an ex-partner to a wedding can be an emotional minefield, a relationship expert has explained.

Life coach Kate Mansfield claims Lady Gabriella will be expected to wear “a stiff upper lip” if ex Pippa attends.

Relationship expert Kate Mansfield told Express.co.uk: “There is no set protocol of the bride or groom inviting an ex to the big day in general, it really depends on how it’s going to make either of you feel and it’s a discussion whereby you both have to be in agreement.

“It’s a decision which needs be made jointly by the bride and groom without any interference from family members as down the line it could cause resentment.”

She described Pippa and Thomas’s ongoing friendship as a potential “hot potato” and claimed Lady Gabriella may have to put on a brave face if Pippa attends her big day.

Ms Mansfield said: “Staying friends with an ex is a hot potato, it requires a high level of maturity and honesty.”

She continued: “If one of you still has feelings, parted badly or there’s still an attraction then it’s a bad idea.”

According to Ms Mansfield an ongoing relationship between exes “rarely works” but royal family members may be under more pressure to keep face.

Ms Mansfield said: “It can obviously also cause issues with new partners, rarely it works.

“In this case there’s a certain expectation of the Royals and society at this level to not have feelings and to keep a stiff upper lip.

“Thankfully this is changing thanks to the younger generations.”
