Royal Wedding 2019: Who is the groom? Everything we know on Thomas Kingston
The first royal wedding of 2019 takes place this weekend, on Saturday, May 18. Lady Gabriella Windsor, who is the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, will wed Thomas Kingston in Windsor Castle’s St George’s Hall. Buckingham Palace announced the happy news last year after the couple got engaged on the Isle of Sark in August 2018.
Who is groom Thomas Kingston?
Thomas Kingston is a 40-year-old financier and according to Buckingham Palace, he “works in frontier market investment and is a Director of Devonport Capital.”
Lady Gabriella’s husband-to-be often goes by the nickname Tom.
He graduated from Bristol University with a bachelor’s degree in economic history.
After graduating, he joined the Diplomatic Missions Unit of the UK’s Foreign Office, and in 2003, he moved to Baghdad where he worked to procure the release of hostages.
Three years later, Tom made a career move and started working as an equity analyst for global asset management firm Schroders.
He later became managing director of Voltan Capital Management until April 2017, before obtaining his current job as a Director of Devonport Capital.
Before he met Gabriella, the financier was linked to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister Pippa Middleton.
The pair were rumoured to have dated in 2011, following Pippa’s split from cricketer Alex Loudon.
The two appear to have split on good terms, and both Tom and Lady Gabriella were invited to her wedding to James Matthews in 2017.
It is also thought Pippa will attend the groom-to-be’s wedding this weekend.
Tom and Lady Gabriella have been dating for a number of years and he proposed while they were on the Isle of Sark last August.
What do we know about the royal wedding?
Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston will tie the knot on Saturday, May 18, just one day before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
The wedding will take place at St George’s Chapel at 12pm and be conducted by the Dean of Windsor.
The event will be private and for friends and family only and the couple and their guests will reportedly head to Frogmore House for the evening reception.
No carriage procession is thought to be planned for the couple’s big day, but senior royals including Queen Elizabeth II will attend the nuptials.
