Royal wedding 2019: Groom shares this special connection with Queen
Blueblood Louis Ducruet is the grandson of American film star Grace Kelly and the late Monaco monarch Prince Rainier III. While he has no official title Louis is 15th in line to the Monaco throne and his royal wedding will be attended by a string of senior royals. This is Louis’s connection to Queen Elizabeth II explained.
Louis Ducruet, 26, is the second Monaco royal to get married in a matter of weeks.
He plans to tie the knot with college sweetheart, Marie Chevallier, in Monaco cathedral next Saturday.
While last year Britain enjoyed a string of royal nuptials, this year Monaco is the wedding hot spot.
Louis’s big day falls less than a month after his cousin, Charlotte Casiraghi, tied the knot in the south of France on June 29.
Louis is the son of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco and Daniel Ducruet.
He is the nephew of the current Prince of Monaco, Albert II.
While Louis and the Queen of England share no blood relation they do have a very special connection through marriage.
How is Louis related to the Queen?
Louis and the Queen share a distant relative in common.
His aunt Caroline is married to Prince Ernst August of Hanover who is a 4x great-grandchild of George III – as is the Queen.
So the husband of Louis’s aunt and the Queen of England are distant blood relations.
Prince Ernst August has another distant blood tie to the Queen.
He like Elizabeth is a 3 x great-grandson of Queen Victoria which makes them third cousins once removed.
Prince Ernst August is also a great-great-grandchild of Christian IX of Denmark – which makes he and the Queen third cousins.
Will Queen Elizabeth attend the wedding?
While the Queen has been a regular at recent British royal weddings it is unlikely she will make the trip to Monaco next weekend.
Members of the Monaco royal family are expected to attend the lavish ceremony but as the Queen is a very distant relative, it would be exceptional if she were to attend.
