Royal valet left red-faced after finding out how Queen and Prince Philip dress for bed

The Queen and Prince Philip have reportedly been livings separate lives since the Duke retired two years ago. Charlie Proctor, editor of Royal Central, recently told Daily Star Online that Philip spends little time at Buckingham Palace, as he views it more like a “workplace” rather than his home. He said: “Unlike most married couples, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh often live miles apart, with Prince Philip spending hardly any time at Buckingham Palace these days.”

Despite spending more time apart than before, Her Majesty and the Duke are very comfortable with their relationship, whether they are near of far from each other.

Even if they are living in the same house, they reportedly stay in separate bedrooms to avoid being bothered by the other person’s snoring.

According to a 2007 report by the Daily Mirror, royal correspondent James Whitaker claimed the two had “connecting bedrooms” in traditional “upper-class fashion”.

About the times they visited each other in the bedroom, the late Mr Whitaker also added: “When he walked into Philip’s bedroom one morning, royal valet James MacDonald was embarrassed to find Elizabeth in a silk nightgown and Philip naked.

“’Prince Philip didn’t care at all,’ said MacDonald.

“‘Pyjamas? Never wear the things,’ Philip once said.”

In Netflix series The Crown, which follows the early years of the Queen’s reign and her marriage to Philip, viewers were shocked to find that actor Matt Smith indeed stripped off for a set of bedroom scenes.

Claire Foy, who plays Elizabeth in the £100million series, said that nudity was included in the show to keep it realistic.

She revealed: “A crucial thing is that Philip sleeps naked. That’s a fact.

“That was something that we found out.

“They weren’t put in – it’s just the fact that there are bed scenes.

“And what do you do, put Philip in a pair of pyjamas? That’s not right for the character.”

Speaking at a Netflix event in New York in 2016, Mr Smith joked that the nude scenes were actually “the best bit of acting I did in the whole series”.

He added: “No word of a lie, it was my most truthful moment.”
