The couple were invited to the Mediterranean country by Greek Prime Minister Kyraikos Mitsotkis. It will be their first foreign engagement of the year and their first since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sent shockwaves through the Royal Family with their Oprah interview. Charles, 72, and Camilla, 73, will attend Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday evening and again on Thursday.

The prince has a special connection to Greece as his father Prince Philip was born and raised there.

The Duke of Edinburgh was born on the island of Corfu where he spent the first 18 months of his life.

His family were forced to leave the island after the Royal Family in Greece were exiled in 1922.

Before marrying the then-Princess Elizabeth, Philip was sixth in line to the Greek throne.

After marring Elizabeth in 1947 he renounced his Greek royal title and became a naturalised British citizen.

The last time Charles and Camilla were in Greece was in May 2018.

The couple visited the capital where they met with Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece at his palace.

They also headed to the island of Crete where they toured the archaeological site of Knossos.

The couple were wooed by locals and joined in on a traditional dance.
