Queen Elizabeth II is known to use her clothing to convey subtle messages – even the way in which she holds her signature handbag is reportedly a secret signal. And her latest engagement which she attended with her grandson, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, was no exception. The monarch stepped out for her first-ever public engagement outside the walls of Windsor Castle since March.

The Queen was dressed in a Stewart Parvin cashmere coat with a matching wide-brimmed hat, made by Rachel Trevor Morgan.

The monarch opted to wear the same pink outfit during her first-ever joint appearance with the Duchess of Cambridge back in 2019.

No other family members were in attendance at the engagement.

The sweet nod to the Duchess of Cambridge is undoubtedly a show of support for the future King and Queen of the country.

Both the Duke and Duchess’s one-on-one public appearances with the Queen indicate she is prepping them for the monarchy.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen in a tour of King’s College London to visit education facilities.

The Prince and his grandmother went to tour a top-secret lab to pay tribute to staff who worked in the aftermath of the Salisbury poisoning.

Much of the work at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) near Salisbury is done in secret.

As soon as the duo arrived at the lab, they were shown the Energetics Enclosure to learn more about the weaponry and tactics used in counterintelligence.

Although the pair remained socially distanced throughout the whole trip, the Queen’s love and admiration for her grandson was on display as she smiled and waved goodbye to him from inside her car.

The Duchess of Cambridge has taken a number of cues from the Queen, including when it comes down to her personal style.

Like the monarch, the Duchess is a huge fan of recycling wardrobe pieces and wearing bright, vivid colours.

In the documentary The Queen at 90, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the Queen’s daughter-in-law, revealed the motive behind her colourful attire.

She said: “She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the Queen’.“

And just like the monarch, the Duchess of Cambridge doesn’t let the stress and pressures of the job show.

A source previously told People: “Catherine is the sort of woman who will take on whatever she needs to.

“If she needs to step up to the plate, she does it – and she always has.”

It comes as Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are passing down to of their favourite patronages to Prince William.

One of the patronages is Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s oldest international wildlife conservation organisation, while the other is British Trust for Ornithology, an organisation that aims to “empower communities to protect local bird species and their natural habitat”.

Both organisations, according to the Palace, align with William’s “longstanding work around conservation and support for communities protecting their natural environment for future generations”.
