Royal Train should NOT be scrapped says poll – ‘what do you think they should do walk?’

Three journeys of the Royal Train between the 2019 and 2020 financial year cost more than £63,000. In the Golden Jubilee year of 2002 journeys made by the train cost £872,000. The German firm DB Cargo UK maintains the service contract for the train at a cost of £300,000 per year.
In 2017, an £18,317 trip by Charles from London to Cwmbran cost £130.84 per mile.
Despite this, voters who supported the Queen keeping the Royal Train despite the cost came in at 54 percent with 1,694 votes.
Those who voted the Royal Train should be scrapped came in at 45 percent, 1,310 votes.
A marginal amount said they “don’t know” (1 percent or 28 votes).

One Express reader commented and said: “No, the royal train should not be scrapped.
“It is cheaper than fights.
“What do you think they should do walk?
“If possible the train should be subsidised by Britain’s industry.”

“Get industry to sponsor it and then use it as a floating sales venue for post-Brexit Britain around the world.
“Lots of foreigners would love to attend a Royal event on the yacht image it moored up in New York where the great and the good could come on board to meet Wills and Kate.”
Another reader stated: “If there is an urgent need to save money then may I suggest we dispense with the House of Lords, who serve no useful purpose, as they have no clout whatsoever.
“We are a Monarchy and have been for centuries so having a Royal train is a plus in my opinion.”

A total number of 3,032 people took part in the poll which ran from 9.41 am to 9.54 pm on December 7.
