Royal Families generate extensive income for their nations through tourism. But as the coronavirus pandemic broke out, royal palaces were forced to close their doors in a bid to slow the spread of the deadly virus and protect lives. However, it wasn’t all bad news for royal fans and some royals chose to open their doors regardless – but in a virtual way.

To celebrate National Day in Sweden on June 6, Crown Princess Victoria offered a virtual tour of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Normally, the Royal Palace opens to the public on this day and is free to visit.

But, due to the outbreak, several virtual tours were published on the Swedish Royal House’s official Facebook page.

Crown Princess Victoria was dressed in Sweden’s national costume and she welcomed people to the Royal Palace from the balcony.

But it is not only Sweden which is open to virtual visitors.

For those hoping to visit some of the UK’s most popular royal attractions, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castles and many more are open for you to peruse from your own home.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official residence and the central headquarters for the Royal Family located in central London.

The palace plays host to several grand royal events each year such as Trooping the Colour and thousands visit the grand home each year.

The virtual tour shows visitors the decadent Grand Staircase, the white Drawing Room, the red Throne Room and the blue Drawing Room.

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is the largest occupied castle in the world and remains a working palace today.

Largely the Queen uses the Castle as a private home and an official Royal resident where she undertakes certain formal duties such as Investitures and State Visits.

The virtual tour covers the State Banquet room in St George’s Hall, the Waterloo Chamber and the Crimson Drawing Room.

The Tower of London

Members of the Royal Family in the UK do not actually live in the Tower of London, but the building is technically a castle and is known officially as the Queen’s Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London.

The Tower of London was founded in the 11th century by William the Conquerer and has been used as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, a public record office and a prison.

Notably, it is the home of the Crown Jewels of England and is a popular tourist attraction.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Queen’s official residence in Scotland.

Several Investitures, Garden Parties and other events are undertaken here each year
