Royal snub: Why will Princess Beatrice get a title after royal wedding but Eugenie didn’t?
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are due to marry on Friday, May 29 at St James’s Palace. The wedding is due to be a smaller affair than that of Beatrice’s younger sister Eugenie’s.
While Eugenie’s wedding was televised and held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, Bea’s nuptials will be a much quieter event.
Her grandmother, the Queen, has offered Beatrice the use of the private gardens in Buckingham Palace to host her wedding reception.
Bea, 31, and Edo, 36, will not have a carriage procession, which a palace source said was “keeping with their wishes for a more low-key” wedding.
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie all had carriage processions after their respective ceremonies.

However, Beatrice will gain something which Eugenie didn’t after her wedding – a title.
Due to Edoardo’s descent from Italian aristocracy, after their wedding, Beatrice will be an Italian “Contessa” and “Nobile Donna” or noblewoman.
Edoardo’s father Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi told the Daily Mail: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.
“He is a count — his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
Alessandro also said Edoardo and Beatrice are “very suited to each other.” He added: “I’ve never seen him so happy.”
As well as the title, Edoardo will inherit the family’s ancestral seat – an 18th-century palace in northern Italy called Villa Mapelli Mozzi.
Often British royals are given titles on their wedding days by the Queen.
For example, Prince Harry was granted a dukedom on his wedding day in 2018, making him and Meghan the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In 2011, Prince William and Kate were given the titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
However, Princess Eugenie bucked the trend and did not get given a title after her wedding to Jack Brooksbank in 2018.
Following their wedding, Eugenie now styles herself as Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank.
Back in 2016, Prince Andrew – Beatrice and Eugenie’s father – denied reports he had demanded titles for “any future husbands” of his daughters.
At the time, Andrew said he wanted his children to be considered “modern, working young women who happen to be members of the royal family.”
When Beatrice marries Edoardo, she will not only gain a title but a stepson as well.
Edoardo is father to three-year-old Christopher Wolfie Mapelli Mozzi, and reports state he will have an important role to play in the wedding.
A palace source told the Daily Mail: “I can confirm that Wolfie will be best man.”
Edoardo had son Wolfie with ex-girlfriend American architect Dara Huang, who is thought to be attending the wedding in May.
Further details of bridesmaids and pageboys has not yet been released by Buckingham Palace.
However, some believe William and Kate’s children could once more have starring roles in a wedding.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte were pageboy and bridesmaid for Princess Eugenie’s wedding, roles they may be reprising come May.
