Royal SNUB: Why has the Queen ‘banned Meghan Markle and Harry from using Sussex Royal’?
According to reports, the Queen has banned Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry from using their Sussex Royal brand. Talks between the couple and senior royals are ongoing after they announced their intentions to step back as senior royals in early January.
Of the reported ban a source told The Daily Mail: “In many ways, this is inevitable given their decision to step down, but it must surely come as a blow to the couple as they have invested everything into the Sussex Royal brand.
“The Queen would have had little choice, however.
“The Sussexes’ original plan – of being half-in, half-out working royals – was never going to work.
“If they aren’t carrying out official duties and are now seeking other commercial opportunities, they simply cannot be allowed to market themselves as royals.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment on the Sussex Royal brand’s future.
Harry and Meghan’s SussexRoyal brand is used for their Instagram, website and their new charitable foundation.
The couple had applied for dozens of trademarks around the brand – including for items like stationery and clothing – shortly before they announced the intentions to leave the Royal Family.
In the Queen’s statement on the couple leaving the fold, she wished them well but the Buckingham Palace statement reiterated that all royal ties were severed.
Of Meghan and Harry’s royal status the Buckingham Palace statement read: “As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for royal duties.
“With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.
“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.
“The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”

The loss of their royal status and the use of the word royal in their branding is the reported point of contention
A royal source said on Tuesday night: “As The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior Members of the Royal family and will work towards financial independence, use of the word ‘Royal’, in this context, needed to be reviewed. Discussions are still ongoing.
“As part of the process to transition The Duke and Duchess of Sussex into their new chapter – planning has been well underway around the launch of their new non-profit organisation. Details will be shared in due course.”
The Sussex Royal title was born when Meghan and Harry parted households from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
However, now the Sussexes face rebranding their social media and website once more.
Currently spending time in both the US and Canada, Meghan and Harry will soon return to the UK at the behest of the Queen.
The Sunday Times reported the Queen has requested Meghan and Harry’s attendance at the annual Commonwealth Day commemoration.
Taking place on March 9, a service is held at Westminster Abbey and a message from the Queen is released.
It is thought Meghan and Harry will bring their nine-month-old son Archie with them to the UK , however one royal commentator has said despite the Queen’s invitation there are question marks around whether Meghan will attend one of the events.
Royal commentator Omid Scobie said: “We have heard from the Palace that their final engagements as working members of the royal family will be taking place in early March.
“That will be an appearance at least by Harry at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall.
“This is the event that really takes place over two nights, Harry and Meghan TBC will appear at this event.
“It will likely be poignant for Harry as he is not just giving up his role as a senior royal but he is also giving up his military honours.
“On March 10th, we will see the couple – Prince Harry is confirmed, Meghan is expected to be by his side – at Westminster Abbey on Commonwealth Day.
“They both keep their roles as President and Vice-President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
“That is hoped to be a meaningful final engagement for the couple – their last ever as senior royals.”
