Royal snub: Kate and William use commercial flight again as climate change row continues

The royal couple and their children flew from Aberdeen to Norwich at 2.40pm yesterday as they returned from visiting the Queen at Balmoral. According to Daily Mail, they touched down in Norfolk just 50 minutes later, at 3.30pm.

The entire trip is believed to have cost £365 for the whole family and comes amid a row over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s private jet use.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex used four private jets in just 11 days, much to the dismay of the public and several high profile figures.

The couple flew from London to Ibiza and back before making a comfortable return trip to the Nice earlier this month.

The intense use of jets fuelled claims that Meghan and Harry were not as committed to the environment as previously thought.

Kate and William’s journey was, as a result, welcomed as a sign that they were committed in their endeavours to protect the planet.

In pictures taken as the Cambridges boarded their flight, Kate sported a stunning light-coloured summery dress as she holds onto baby Louis, who is now 16 months old.

William is also seen looking after Charlotte and George.

Prince George was spotted bouncing up the steps leading to the FlyBe plane, as little Princess Charlotte trailed close behind.

The family arrived in a blacked out Range Rover which was driven straight onto the runway.

They were accompanied by their nanny Maria Borrallo, who has worked for the Royal Family since 2014, and a security guard.

Their second appearance on a short-haul commercial flight will inevitably lead to comparisons with Willian’s brother, Prince Harry and Meghan, who have been branded as hypocrites for their private jet use.

The Sussex’s were lambasted by the public as well as high profile figures for their apparent disregard for the environment.

Many came to there defence, including Sir Elton John, who said he provided the couple with a private jet for a luxury stay at his villa in Nice.

Sir Elton claimed that the jet was “carbon neutral” to ensure the Duke and Duchess maintained their pledge to the environment.

Piers Morgan, an avid critic of the pair took to Twitter to vent his outrage, writing: “Jeez… these two ‘eco-warriors’ are something else. Beyond parody.”

Royal commentator, Omid Scobie, also joined in in defending the Duke and Duchess, saying: “I think the difference between Harry is when he could jump on an EasyJet with mates, now he has a child and how do you protect that child? I think that maybe some of this is just figuring that out. How can they travel, have their own life, but also do things the right way?”

William and Kate managed to take their three children, including Louis who is barely one, on the commercial flight with ease.

They were seen first boarding the plane at Norwich International Airport to Aberdeen Airport to visit William’s grandparents at the Queen’s summer home last week.

The family traditionally spend the August bank holiday weekend at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire.

One passenger told the MailOnline about what happened on the flight, they said:”The family were sat right at the front. I fly this route all the time and we were none the wiser. No-one knew they were on the flight.

“Later on I realised that Kate’s mother was sat a few rows in front of me.”

The passenger added: “Earlier in the flight, I’d had the feeling that someone had come on the plane that I’d recognised – but I thought it was just a footballer.

“We landed, and people then saw two black Range Rovers on the tarmac.

“Suddenly, Will, Kate, and the kids all got up, and left.”
