Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry will reportedly spend the festive holidays away from the UK with David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee. Ms McPhee was a friend of the Duchess’ at school and her husband has been branded the prince’s “surrogate dad”.
Last year, the Sussexes did not go to Sandringham for Christmas but instead spent it with their baby son Archie and Duchess’ mother in Canada.
Before last year, the royal couple spent every Christmas since their engagement in 2017 at the Sandringham Estate with the Queen.
Mr Foster, a 70-year-old Canadian record producer, has helped the Sussexes build their lives in North America.
Earlier this year, Ms McPhee revealed the relationship between the two men.
She told Access Hollywood: “My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry. They’re so cute. They’re like father and son.”
Ms McPhee has been a friend of the Duchess’ since they attended the Immaculate High School in LA.
The Duchess of Sussex is hoping to have Christmas at her and Prince Harry’s new house.
A source told the Mirror: “Meghan very much wants to host the first Christmas at their new home with her mum.
“She’s really excited and is planning on doing all the traditions she grew up with as a child, including the cooking.”
The Sussexes are also said to have invited Prince Harry’s “surrogate dad” and his wife Ms McPhee.
The source added: “They’ve also invited David and Katherine to spend it with them. David had mentioned Harry and Meghan going to theirs but Meghan wants it at home.
“They want to get on with their new lives. Christmas with Harry’s family is not in the plan.”

Last year, the Queen did not include a picture of the Sussexes and Archie among the portraits on her table during her annual Christmas speech.
The news of the couple’s US Christmas plans comes as royal biographer, Robert Lacey, promotes the release of his new book, Battle of the Brothers.
Mr Lacey’s book details the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William.
The author told the Daily Mail: “When I started to look into this supposed feud between the two princes, I didn’t believe it.
“I thought it was newspapers stirring up something that wasn’t there.
“I didn’t want to believe it, in truth. None of us does. Yet it most definitely exists. Actually, it’s worse than anyone thinks.”
Insiders believe Mr Foster’s relationship with Prince Harry could play a key role in the Duke’s Hollywood ambitions after he helped the couple with their Netflix deal, according to the Mirror.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Once again this is a most unwelcome distraction with Harry and Meghan at its heart. The divisions they have caused are still being felt at the heart of the family.
“Despite everyone’s best efforts to move on without them, it’s as if they still have an enormous hold over everyone.
“The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William don’t constantly monitor Harry and Meghan’s every move – but many of their decisions are causing a lot of concern.”
