Royal shock: ‘Lonely’ Queen to retire for heartbreaking reason, expert claims

The 93-year-old is the longest reigning British monarch since she surpassed Queen Victoria in 2015. Her Majesty has dedicated her life to the throne and has carried out more work this year than Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. But royal expert Duncan Larcombe believes the Queen will eventually step down from loneliness.

Mr Larcombe told Yahoo’s Royal Box: “A lot of people think that perhaps she might stand down once her husband the Duke of Edinburgh passes away.

“That is certainly a possibility.

“She has always been with him, by her side and now he’s retired.

“Yes, we see the other royals compensating and looking after her.

“She’s in her nineties now, yes she’s in good health but I think she’s entitled to retirement by now.”

Prince Philip stepped down from royal duties in 2017 and now reportedly spends a lot of his time at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

The 98-year-old has completed 22,219 solo events or public meetings since 1952 over 70 years.

Philip did not attend the Queen’s Trooping the Colour in June which led to her looking “lonely” in the carriage, according to royal biographer Angela Levin.

Ms Levin told Yahoo’s Royal Box: “I think she made this pledge that she would serve her country until she died and she’s just going to keep it.

“She looks amazingly healthy, she’s very articulate, she’s very energetic, she stands up for an hour.

“I felt a little sorry for her when she was in her coach because she was entirely on her own.

“Quite understandably that Prince Philip didn’t come at nearly 98 but it was quite lonely and I thought, this is the loneliness of the monarch.”
