Royal shock: How Princess Michael of Kent snubbed Fergie and Andrew

Sarah Ferguson – affectionately known as Fergie – and Prince Andrew married in their spectacular royal wedding in 1986. Princess Michael of Kent is married to the Queen’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, and the pair were most recently seen at their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor’s royal wedding this May. The royal has become known for her demanding personality, and was even branded “Princess Pushy” by Princess Anne.

However, when Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew celebrated their engagement in 1986, the Princess made a shocking social snub to the happy couple.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, in her 1991 book “Sarah: HRH The Duchess of York”, writes about the huge dinner dance that Sarah’s father held for Andrew and Fergie in Windsor.

The Queen was in attendance, alongside Fergie’s friends and family, and US First Lady Nancy Reagan.

However, Ms Seward writes: “[One] table was one person short.

“The missing person was Princess Michael of Kent.

“When Prince Michael arrived, he was on his own.

“He had no explanation for his wife’s absence, only an apology.”

However, this screaming social faux pas was not repeated at Andrew and Fergie’s wedding, which Princess Michael of Kent did show up for.

This year, Fergie and Andrew looked adorably happy together as they arrived fro Lady Gabriela Windsor’s wedding together, alongside daughter Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

There was no love lost between Princess Michael of Kent and Princess Diana, either.

Speaking in Channel 5 Documentary “Royals at War”, Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe said: “Diana used to refer to her as the U-Boat Commander, it was really common knowledge.”

Meanwhile, Princess Michael made her feelings for the Princess of Wales clear when she spoke to an undercover reporter in 2005.
