Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall has been escorting husband Prince Charles on numerous engagements since the couple tied the knot in 2005. Since their marriage, the Prince of Wales has notably become more “relaxed” and open during public outings, a transformation many experts insisted the Duchess of Cornwall helped bring about. But because of the more easy-going demeanour, Charles has taken on after marrying Camilla, royal etiquette has taken some hits because of the pair having a more chilled approach to outings.

Speaking to Channel 5’s documentary ‘Charles and Camilla: King and Queen in waiting’, broadcaster Carole Malone recounted a particular moment during Charles and Camilla’s 2017 Canada tour where the couple raised some eyebrows for their reaction to an event thrown in their honour.

Ms Malone said: “One of the things they laid on was this Inuit couple who were throat singing.

“And it sounded very much like two people having sex.

“Charles and Camilla were tickled pink by this, they were giggling like a couple of teenagers.”

Ms Malone added: “That would never have happened 20 years ago.”

Commentator Daisy McAndrew suggested the Prince of Wales has become “happier” when he is on engagements with his wife.

Ms McAndrew said: “I think it’s very clear when you look at Charles and Camilla over the last 15 years what a difference she has made to his persona, to his outlook, to his demeanour.

“He’s just clearly a much happier person now. He’s relaxed a bit.”

The Duchess of Cornwall has matured a reputation for easily getting the giggles because of the pomp and circumstance of royal engagements.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2017, Camilla herself admitted she sometimes laughs “too much” but insisted humour is a helpful tool when faced with the numerous requirements of royal life.

She said: “You’ve got to laugh through most things, and sometimes I do laugh a bit too much.

“There are situations where it’s very difficult not to lose it completely, especially, you know, if something goes terribly wrong and everybody sits there for a split-second not sure how to react.

“You do have to swallow and pinch yourself very hard to not laugh.”

The Duchess of Cornwall has also been praised for her witty remarks, yet another tool Camilla has been known to use to break the tension and make members of the public at ease during engagements.

Shortly before being forced to move to Scotland in a bid to limit the risks of catching coronavirus, the Duchess left staff members of the University Hospital of Leicester in giggles because of a perfectly-timed joke.

The royal took a turn at wheeling a trolley around the hospital, taking control of the frame saying: “Oooh, here we go. I’ve never run anyone over with a trolley before.”

The Duchess also made the audience giggle when she called herself a “very ancient trolley dolly”.

She added: “There’s nothing I can’t turn my hand to.”
