The Duchess, 72, said in an interview with BBC Radio 5’s Emma Barnett that one of the things she does to keep on top of her fitness is the artistic dancing style of ballet.

To this end, Camilla and a group of friends all of a similar age get together to practice their moves in sessions that build up balance and flexibility.

She revealed earlier this year that she had been taking ballet lessons for as long as 18 months.

The Duchess had been enamoured with the dance ever since visiting a Silver Swans class in New Zealand, which she called “completely brilliant”.

But, revealing her lighter side, the Duchess said she was initially worried that she wouldn’t be able to hold back laughter when she attended her first class.

Camilla remarked: “I wondered whether I was going to get through it without laughing.

“You don’t want to get the giggles, but there was a moment when I thought I would have to bite my bottom lip very hard.”

One things got going, however, the Duchess was hooked and impressed with the other dancers she saw.

Afterwards, the approached a group of her friends to suggest that they all take ballet lessons together.

The Duchess’s pals initially batted aside the idea, however, with Camilla explaining they “howled with laughter” when she first proposed it.

Luckily, the group managed to keep the giggles at bay, since all were concentrating so hard that they didn’t “dare look to the left or right”, Camilla explained.

In the last few months, these sessions had become virtual, with the Duchess explaining that she was taking part in online lessons instead.

However, one of the sessions apparently took a turn and left the royal with a back injury that required her to sit out of sessions for some time.

She explained: “I managed to… obviously doing something wrong, I did something to my back”.

This meant that Camilla unfortunately had to lay off the ballet for a bit.

But the Duchess appeared undeterred by this small setback, explaining that “I can’t wait to get back to it again, you feel so well after it”.

But the big question remains: Will she manage to twist Prince Charles’ arm and get him showing off his moves?

The Duchess seemed doubtful. “I did not get him doing a plié,” she explained – a reference to a widely recognisable ballet move.

However, perhaps this isn’t off the cards entirely. Camilla described Charles as a “very, very fit man” and “probably the fittest man of his age I know”.
