Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “spoke their truth” in an interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey this week. The Palace has insisted the issues raised, which included racism towards Meghan and Archie, the couple’s son, would be “addressed by the family privately”. However, the world will be watching to gauge the dynamic when the Royal Family are next seen in public together.
When will Meghan and Harry see the royals again?
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be sheltering in place for the time being as international travel to the UK isn’t currently permitted.
However, there is one major date in the calendar, and it’ll see Princess Diana bringing her sons together once more.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, royal expert and author Marlene Koenig said the “first inkling” of how the relationship between the brothers is going will come in the summer, “when William and Harry meet at Kensington Palace gardens for the unveiling of the statue of their mother” on July 1.
She added: “I expect there will be numerous body language experts trying to figure things out.”
There have also been reports that Meghan and Harry will be in the UK for Trooping the Colour, the official celebration of the Queen’s birthday, planned to go ahead on June 12.
Since the explosive interview aired, there has been much speculation about whether Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family will ever be repaired.
Harrowing details were shared in the Oprah interview, including claims by Meghan that Harry had been asked by an unnamed family member “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be.
The Duchess also revealed that, at times in her two years as a working royal, she found it so difficult that she “didn’t want to be alive anymore”, and that her pleas for help were ignored by the royal institution.
Harry revealed that his father, Prince Charles, wasn’t answering his calls for a time and that he felt “let down” by his father.
He said the Royal Family had “literally cut me off financially” after he and Meghan left the UK.
On whether these now so publicly strained relationships could ever be healed, Ms Koenig said: “I feel there will be a need for conversations between the Sussexes, especially Harry with his family.
“It is possible that bridges have not been burned but it is important to understand that the Duke and Duchess’s interview was their narrative, how they want their story to be told and heard, even though it may not be completely accurate.
“There were certainly a few grenades tossed at Buckingham Palace, but we do not know the entire story.”

The Palace, in their response to the interview, said that while “recollections vary”, the allegations made in the interview were “concerning” and “taken very seriously”.
The statement from the Palace, which came a day and a half after the interview was first broadcast in the US, said: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
The happiest news to come out of the often sad interview was the news that the couple are expecting a little girl later this year.
Harry said it was “amazing”, adding: “What more can you ask for?” – but said they would be done after baby number two arrives.
Towards the end of the interview, Oprah asked if Meghan had got her happy ending with Prince Harry after all.
She replied: “Greater than any fairytale that you’ve ever read.”
