Royal rift: Meghan uses ROYAL clout to push friend’s £900-a-night retreat
Self-styled fitness guru MrsToomey is such a close pal she was invited to Meghan’s spectacular baby shower.
The Duke and Duchess said on their Instagram account that they want to “shine a light” on promoting well-being, mental fitness, body positivity and self-care.
However, they were attacked for advertising the exclusive business of Meghan’s friend Mrs Toomey.
One of the pictures on the royals’ account is of Ms Toomey who runs The Class, which is a described as a “transformative workout for the body and mind”.
Mrs Toomey was one of the guests to attend Meghan’s New York baby shower and hosts a £3,600 four-night retreat at a luxury resort on the private Caribbean island of Mustique.
The post on their sussexroyal page says: “To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection – to not just hear each other, but to listen.
“There are countless organisations doing amazing work for mental health – please consider the accounts we’ve highlighted as a small snapshot of this global support network.”
Some of the royals’ fans were quick to highlight the expense of the retreat, Amy Edgar said: “Be alright if we all got enough tax payers money to visit a retreat, but hey, the epidemic still goes on.”
Another said: “Plugging charities..yes! Raising awareness of mental health….yes! But promoting your mates business?”
Other people congratulated the Duke and Duchess for highlighting the issue of mental health problems, Dixon Col said: “We need to start putting pressure on our governments to invest in counsellors, psychologist, mental health practitioners and such.
“Apps work to treat the issue, but they don’t treat the root cause. Well done M&H!”
Author and broadcaster Penny Junor told the Mail On Sunday it was “wrong”.
She said: “The Royal Family must be cleaner than clean.”
Meghan and Harry are advocates of mental health and have repeatedly spoken out about the importance of the issue.
The royal couple welcomed the newest member of the clan Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor into the family on Monday, May 6.
