William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 39, attended the awards ceremony for the Earthshot Prize earlier this month. William launched the environmental prize last year to help support innovative solutions to the world’s environmental problems. Kate presented an award to one of the five Earthshot winners, each of whom received £1milion to scale up their project.

At the end of the star-studded ceremony, held at London’s Alexandra Palace, it was revealed that next year’s Earthshot Prize will be held in the US.

The idea was since floated that the Cambridges may collaborate with Meghan and Harry, who live in California.

The couple, who are also known for being passionate advocates of environmental causes, dramatically split from the Royal Family last year.

A major rift was reported to have opened between brothers William and Harry and their respective wives.

It has been suggested that the couple could collaborate on Earthshot in the US as a sign of peace between the couples, but Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers has poured cold water on the idea that the two couples may work together.

The journalist spoke about the possibility of a collaboration on royal podcast ‘Pod Save The Queen’, hosted by Zoe Forsey.

He said: “It’s interesting that they’re going to the United States next year.

“Maybe people are mischievously making a little bit more out of that than they should.

“Obviously, Harry and Megan are over there doing their own stuff with the environment and with Archewell, I don’t think we’ll see them involved at all.”

Archewell is an organisation Meghan and Harry set up to carry out their charity work and provide updates on their activities.

Through Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions, the Sussexes have also signed deals to produce content for Spotify and Netflix.

Ms Forsey asked Mr Myers if Meghan and Harry’s involvement could help give Earthshot an “influence on both sides of the Atlantic”

Mr Myers said: “My personal opinion is that I can’t see it happening.

“They’re doing such different things at the moment.”

Harry and Meghan have both previously written about the need to protect the environment and safeguard the planet against the damaging impacts of climate change.

Mr Myers also pointed out that Harry didn’t come over to the UK for a private reception hosted by William last week in relation to their late mother, Princess Diana.

He said: “It was a reception for the donors who raised money for the Princess Diana memorial statue.

“Harry didn’t come over for it, he must have had something on.

“It was sort of rumoured whether he would be coming. It didn’t happen for one reason or another.

“And then it ended up being a private event, so read into that what you will.

“However, with Earthshot, I think this is very, very central to William.

“I think we’ll see Kate involved, I definitely think we’ll see [Prince] Charles and we’ve had the Queen commenting on it a couple of times this week.”
