During that reign, the Queen has become adept at being able to handle any personality and person. However, according to royal expert, Ingrid Seward, the Queen never learnt how to deal with one person whose popularity reached incredible levels. Writing in her book, The Queen and Di: The Untold Story, Ms Seward revealed that Her Majesty became fearful of Princess Diana.

She writes: “There was one person she never learnt to handle.

“The Queen came to fear her daughter-in-law.”

According to one member of the household: “The Queen was petrified of Diana.”

The royal expert stated that Her Majesty was fearful of Diana’s “popularity”.

Despite her incredible amount of popularity, behind closed doors Diana often would break down with the Queen in private.

Such was Diana’s emotion that the Queen would come to “dread” meeting with Prince Charles’ the wife.

Ms Seward writes: “The Queen came to dread these meetings with her daughter-in-law.

“They left her feeling drained and despondent and confused – an uncommon state for a woman accustomed to the certainties of her position.”

Following the result of those meetings, that Ms Seward also revealed that Her Majesty began to meet with Diana less and less.

Diana married Charles in what became one of the most-watched events around the world.

According to estimates, 750 million watched the event.

Such was Diana’s popularity that Tony Blair once described her as the People’s Princess shortly after her death.
