Royal revelation: How Kate Middleton and Prince William are preparing George to be king

Prince William is second in line to the throne, and his son Prince George third in line. The responsibility is a huge one, and could be too much for a six-year-old, but William and Kate have a clever way of explaining royal life to their children.

A royal source said the Cambridges have come up with a clever way to explain Prince George’s future role to him.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly also explained royal duties to Princess Charlotte.

However, the couple sought to do so without them feeling “overwhelmed.”

Speaking to Closer the source said: “William and Kate have already talked to George and Charlotte about their future roles, but in a child-like way so that they understand without feeling overwhelmed.

“George knows there’s something special about him and that one day he’ll be the future King of England.”

Being the monarch could be a terrifying prospect for a young child, so Prince William has reportedly found a clever way to do so.

A source told Us Weekly: “William talks to George about what being a royal means.”

“He does so in a very simple manner because he doesn’t want his son to feel overwhelmed at such a young age.

“He’ll explain things as if he’s reading from a children’s storybook.

“So it’s fun for George.”

Prince William, 37, discovered he was the future king as a young boy.

He reportedly told his mother he didn’t want the job, while his brother Prince Harry was more than willing to take it on.

  • Reason Charles DIDN’T want Beatrice and Eugenie as senior royals

In a documentary on the Queen’s Children, Jeremy Paxman remembered talking to Princess Diana over a private dinner about her sons’ futures.

He said: ”We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it’.”

Prince Charles, 71, is the next in line to the throne, followed by his son Prince William and then grandson Prince George.

Prince William may face more responsibility in the coming weeks, as the Royal Family has faced a shake up.

Three senior royals have stepped back from their roles, leaving gaps for the remaining royals to fill.

Prince Andrew announced he would be withdrawing from his royal duties for “the foreseeable future” after a BBC Newsnight interview on his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Following backlash after the interview, Andrew said he “unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein.”

Then in January 2020, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry announced their intentions to step back as senior royals.

The couple pledged to aim towards “financial independence” and said they would split time between the UK and North America.
