Royal reveal: Prince Philip has a very endearing secret nickname for The Queen

The claim was made by Peter Morgan, creator of HBO Royal show ‘The Crown’ as well as the hit 2006 movie ‘The Queen’. He said Philip calls his wife “cabbage”, an abbreviation of the French term “mon petit chou” meaning “my darling”. Mr Morgan commented: “I inquired in Royal circles and was told on very good authority that that is what the Duke sometimes calls The Queen.”

During one scene in ‘The Queen’ Philip jokingly asks his wife to “move over cabbage” so he can get into bed.

The future Queen and Prince Philip first met in 1934, when Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark married Prince George, Duke of Kent.

They would meet again in 1939 at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, and began exchanging letters.

Eight years later they were married, on 20 November 1947.

The wedding, held in Westminster Abbey, was a major national event two years after the World War 2 ended.

A number of senior Royals are known to have nicknames within the family.

On Thursday Princess Eugenie posted a picture on Instagram to mark the birthday of her older sister, Princess Beatrice.

She accompanied it with the caption “You have been bossing it since before I was born and continue to be the most wonderful person, friend and big sister.

“Happy Birthday to you Beabea!”

According to Prince Harry Princess Diana used to call Prince William “Wombat”.

He is widely known as “Wills” amongst his close friends.
