The Royal pregnancy was announced to much fanfare in October last year. Bookies odds suggest the couple could give their child a traditional royal name, or name it after one of their relatives. After its birth the new child will be seventh in line to the throne.

Odds from bookmaker William Hill, posted on March 25, give an indication of what names the public think could be selected.

According to the bookmakers the most likely name to be chosen is Victoria, with odds of 8/1.

The name has serious Royal pedigree, with Queen Victoria reigning from 1937 until her death in 1901.

Until she was overtaken by the present monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, she was the longest servicing British King or Queen.

Second on the list is Diana, the name of Harry’s late mother, which is given odds of 10/1.

Princess Diana was killed by a Paris car crash in 1997, when Harry was 12 years old.

The next two names on the odds list, Alice and Isabella, are girls suggesting punters think the baby is significantly more likely to be a girl.

The first boys name, Arthur, appears in fifth place with odds of 14/1.

Only two other boys names make the top ten, Edward and James, in seventh and tenth place respectively.

However Harry and Meghan’s child won’t be a Prince or Princess unless The Queen intervenes personally.

Limits on the number of royal titles were outlined by King George V in 1917.

There was fervent speculation about what names the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would give their children ahead of each birth.

Prince George was born in 2013, Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis most recently last year.
