Royal reveal: How Prince Harry helped Meghan Markle record her new Disney movie

Elephant, a new Disney+ documentary, began streaming yesterday. The nature film explores a herd’s journey in search of water.

Prince Harry joined his wife in the recording studios to support Meghan, while Archie stayed at home according to reports.

The filmmakers, Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, told People magazine that Harry was there to give pointers to Meghan when she recorded in London’s Pinewood Studios last October.

Ms Berlowitz said: “It was amazing having [Harry] there.”

Mr Linfield added: “Harry was correcting her pronunciation.”

Over dinner in Botswana in 2017, Mr Linfield and Ms Berlowitz explained to Meghan how females lead the herds and showed her parts of their in-progress film, Elephant.

Ms Berlowitz said: “She was absolutely intrigued by the elephants and transfixed, especially by the female empowerment side.

“How important the matriarchs are to the story; it really is all about female leadership.

“It’s a different form of power – it’s about consensual leadership.

“It’s also very inclusive, as well – very contemporary. [Meghan] was absolutely fascinated by that.”

After this meeting, the filmmakers came up with the idea of Meghan narrating the nature documentary.

Mr Linfield told People magazine: “We actually tried her voice against the picture, right then.”

He searched recordings of Meghan’s voice and played it against some early footage.

“She had done United Nations women’s speeches, and they just worked great,” he added.

The filmmakers said that as a mum, Meghan related to the journey of the mothers in the elephant herd.

Elephant was released yesterday alongside Dolphin Reef, another Disney+ nature documentary voiced by Natalie Portman.

All the profits Meghan made from the documentary went to the Elephants Without Borders charity – an organisation devoted to conserving wildlife.

Elephant shows the annual migration of an elephant herd across the Kalahari Desert in search of water and food.

The herd move from Botswana’s Okavango Delta in its dry season to the Zambezi and the Victoria Falls.

African elephant Shani and her lively son Jomo follow their great matriarch, Gaia, across the Kalahari Desert.

Meghan is unlikely to win an Oscar from this role, according to bookies.

The Duchess of Sussex gave up her career as an actress when she became engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.

This will be her first non-royal job after stepping down as a senior royal officially last month.

Her most prominent role was playing Rachel Zane in the TV series Suits.
