Royal rebel: The shock royal set to join Bear Grylls in new series – ‘Moment of madness!’

He is also the godfather of Lady Louise Windsor, the daughter of Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex. Lord Ivar is the first member of a British monarch’s extended family to be openly in same-sex relationship after he married James Coyle last year. He explained his reality TV appearance: “I applied to this show in a moment of madness and, unbelievably, I got accepted.

“They cleverly changed the format this season and introduced money for us to find, thus adding to the drama.”

He is unable to speak about the programme until it launches next week but is expected to say it was “most incredible experience”.

As reported by Mail Online, the program is narrated by Mr Grylls and puts contestants on a remote island to test their survival skills.

They are left alone with nothing but clothes, some basic tools and training.

Former Special Air Service servicemen Mr Grylls has become a renowned survival instructor.

He launched his ‘Born Survivor’ series in 2006.

This month, Mr Grylls stared in a special episode with Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister.

Lord Ivar has three daughters with his now divorced wife, Penelope Anne Vere Thompson.

Their names are Ella, Alexandra and Louise Mountbatten.

Edward is the godfather of Ella.

Sophie is the godmother of Alexandra.

Ms Thompson walked Lord Ivar down the aisle to give him away when he married Mr Coyle at the suggestion of their daughters.

Lord Ivar attended Gordonstoun School.

The Moray independent school posses Charles, Prince of Wales and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh amongst its alumni.

Charles once described the school as “Colditz in kilts” suggested it might have prepared Lord Ivar for his survival task.

Anne, Princess Royal is actually the only one of the Queen and Philip’s children not to attend the school with Prince Andrew, Duke of York also attending.

Due to the school not accepting boys at the time of her secondary education she went to Benenden School in Kent.

Anne sent her two children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips to the school and served on the board of governors.

 

Philip, Charles and Edward all spent time as head boy of the school.

In fiction, Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider series is another notable alumna.

Lara has been used in advertisement for the school in the past.
