The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral takes place on Saturday, following his peaceful death aged 99 at Windsor Castle last Friday.

Just 30 people are allowed to attend due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Queen could be forced to sit alone as she mourns Philip because of strict Covid rules.

Under the law, anyone attending a funeral must keep two metres apart from anyone who is not in their household.

This means members of the Royal Family will be scattered across St George’s Chapel.

The Queen is staying at Windsor Castle with a reduced number of staff dubbed HMS Bubble.

Philip’s private secretary, Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell, is expected to attend the funeral.

As part of HMS Bubble, he may be able to sit next to the 94-year-old and offer support.

The Telegraph cited royal sources as confirming the monarch would sit on her own at the service unless she is joined by a member of HMS Bubble.

Attendees, including the Queen, will also have to wear face masks during the ceremony, which will be televised.

Preparations are under way for the Duke’s funeral, which will feature servicemen and women from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and RAF – alongside top military brass.

The service is expected to attract a large television audience.

Members of the Royal Family have been rallying around the Queen’s following her husband’s death.

But she has already returned to royal duties as the monarchy’s two weeks of mourning continues.

The Queen mark the retirement of her household’s most senior official, former Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

Prince Andrew revealed how Philip’s death had left a “huge void” in the monarch’s life as he attended a church service on Sunday.

The Duke of York said: “The Queen, as you would expect, is an incredibly stoic person.

“She described it as having left a huge void in her life but we, the family, the ones that are close, are rallying round to make sure that we’re there to support her.”
