Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s sit-down chat with the US chat show host made headlines around the world this week, due to the explosive claims made against the Royal Family. The couple accused the Firm of failing to support the Duchess when she was feeling suicidal and also accused an unnamed member of the Royal Family of racism.

Buckingham Palace released a short statement in response to the claims, where they made clear the issues discussed in the interview were a private family matter and the specific allegations will not be publicly addressed.

The statement said: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

The Queen is expected to reach out to Harry and take personal charge of the fallout in the coming days.

But do you think the monarch should go a step further and give her side of the Megxit battle in a TV interview?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a number of explosive claims about the Royal Family during the two-hour interview, which ITV aired in the UK on Monday night.

The couple accused an unnamed member of the Royal Family of making a racist remaking about the skin colour of their unborn first child.

Meghan said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born”.

Oprah asked if her son being “too brown” would be a problem, to which Meghan replied: “If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one”.

Meghan also said the Firm failed to provide her with help when she was struggling with her mental health.

In the interview, the Duchess said went to one of the Palace institution’s “most senior people” for support after experiencing thoughts of self-harm.

She said: “I went to the institution. And I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help.

“I said, I never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere.

“I was told that I couldn’t. That it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

Prince Harry later told the US journalist “a lack of support and a lack of understanding” led to the couple stepping down as senior royals last year.

The Duke also said he felt “trapped” while in the Royal Family and also claimed his father, Prince Charles, and brother, Prince William are also “trapped” by the system.

He said: “I myself was trapped. I didn’t see a way out. I was trapped but I didn’t know I was trapped.

Harry added that he was “trapped within the system, like the rest of my family are”.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry aired on ITV at 9pm on Monday March 8. You can watch the full interview on the ITV hub.
