Royal POLL: Should Prince Harry and Meghan Markle keep their HRH titles?

Meghan Markle and Harry ‘crossed a line’ with Archie says expert

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sent shockwaves around the world when they announced they would be stepping back as senior royals last January, in a move that was dubbed “Megxit”. The news even came as a surprise to members of the Royal Family and prompted the so-called Sandringham Summit where the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry hashed out the terms of the Sussexes’ departure.

It was agreed that Meghan and Harry could no longer use their HRH (His Royal Highness/Her Royal Highness) titles after stepping down, but they would still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

But do you think that was the right move, and should Harry and Meghan keep their HRH titles?

It was also agreed that Prince Harry would lose his three honorary military titles.

Before stepping down as a senior royal, the Duke of Sussex held the titles Captain-General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Force Commandant of the Royal Air Force Base Honington, and Honorary Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Naval Commands’ Small Ships and Diving.

At the time Buckingham Palace said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “understand that they are required to step back from royal duties, including official military appointments”.

Losing the military titles came as a great blow to Harry and last March he told the Commandant General Royal Marines, Matthew Holmes, he was “devastated” by the move.

The Duke told him: “I’m devastated that I am having to step down.

“I feel I’m letting people down, but I had no choice.”

As a result, Express.co.uk is asking if you think the Queen should return Prince Harry his three honorary military titles?

The terms of the Megxit deal are due to be reviewed in March, which marks a year after the couple officially stepped down.

One positive outcome of the Sandringham summit for the couple was that they were allowed to keep their existing patronages.

The Duke is patron of several charities, including the Invictus Games, Rugby Football Union, Sentable and London Marathon Trust.

Meghan was also able to keep her four patronages, which includes Smartworks, Royal National Theatre and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Patronages give a charity vital publicity, and the royal linked to it will support the organisation and attend events.

But as the one-year Megxit review approaches, do you think Meghan and Harry should retain their patronages?

Over a year has passed since the Sussexes announced they had decided to step back from the royal fold, having first broadcast the news on their Instagram account on January 8 last year.

The couple have since embarked on a new life in Santa Barbara, California, with their 20-month-old son Archie.

Express.co.uk is interested to know if your opinion of Meghan and Harry changed one year after Megxit and if this has changed for the better or for the worse.

This website is also keen to find out if you think the Sussexes will one day want to return to the Royal Family?

Moreover, do you think both Meghan and Harry will want to come back together, or will either the Duchess or the Duke see to return on their own?
