But some claim the Duchess of Sussex, 40, made “a mockery of British Royalty” during the episode on CBS. In particular, Sussex critics did not take lightly a prank during which Meghan drank milk from a baby bottle in public.

One critic seethed on Twitter: “Now is definitely the time to strip Meghan of her royal title on the grounds that she is not acting appropriately in public to carry the title that represents the Royal Family.”

Another user claimed: “Meghan Markle is using her Royal title and making a mockery of British Royalty.”

Despite harsh retorts across social media, many felt Meghan handled the ‘Ellen’ interview very well.

Emily Andrews, a royal journalist and commentator, said Meghan’s behaviour “was so royal” on the TV show, as she highlighted charitable work and putting the “limelight and spotlight on ordinary people”.

During the interview, Meghan revealed she and Prince harry donated £15,000 to A Twist of Greatness, a charity which braids hair.

She also revealed that the couple matched the show’s support to charity Tibet, with both parties donating a further £15,000.

Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympian and reality star, praised the Duchess of Sussex for her interview with Ellen, saying she was “so much more real and at peace with herself”.

She believes “Meghan is in an extremely difficult position”.

She said: “You go from basically obscurity to the cameras on you every day, everywhere you go, you’re scrutinised, and certainly the media and the rags over there can be very tough on people.

“If you’re not used to that, that’s tough to deal with. But in that interview, I think she was kind of herself and good for her.”

Noel Phillips, GMB’s North America Correspondent, said the Duchess has been “applauded for the interview”, while claiming the Sussex PR machine is “in full swing attempting to reboot Meghan’s image”.

He added: “In fact, a lot of people have said it was great to see Meghan showing a lighter side to her personality and also poking fun at herself.”

And Meghan’s “happy go lucky” side shown in Ellen’s interview offered a glimpse into why Prince Harry fell in love with the Duchess, according to Aussie TV presenter Kylie Gilles.

The Morning Show host Ms Gillies said: “Well, that’s probably the woman that Harry fell in love with.”

Royal expert Angela Mollard agreed: “So true Kylie, yeah.”

Ms Gillies continued: “That’s why they are living in Montecito, that’s why he’s done it, that’s his wife and they are happy.

“Good luck to them.”
