Prince William, 37, made a morale-boosting speech to Britons as the nation unites to battle the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The Duke of Cambridge’s rousing address was shared on Kensington Palace’s Twitter page on Wednesday as part of a campaign to raise money for the National Emergencies Trust.

As a former emergency helicopter pilot, Prince Willian knows firsthand what it’s like to work on the frontline and understands the challenge emergency staff are currently facing.

He urged Britons to “pull together” to “overcome the challenge” coronavirus currently poses to the nation.

Prince William’s full speech read: “Whenever and wherever adversity strikes, the people of the UK have a unique ability to pull together.

“The way that local communities support those affected shows the very best of our values and human nature.”

He added: “The public’s desire to help in the wake of tragedy needs to be managed and channelled in the best possible way – which is why the establishment of National Emergencies Trust was so important.

“I said at its launch last year that I dreaded the day when it would be needed.

“Sadly, with the outbreak of Covid-19, that day has come faster than any of us would have hoped.

“But now, more than ever, I am grateful that The National Emergencies Trust exists.

“It will ensure that support reaches those across the UK who need it most, as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“And it will help to ensure that all our efforts to overcome this challenge are channelled in the best possible way.”

The rhetoric of William’s speech was statesmanlike and showed him to be well-prepared for his future role as king.

Prince William was the first British Royal Family member to directly address the coronavirus crisis since the Government introduced new measures to tackle in on Monday.

Queen Elizabeth II, 93, and Prince Charles, 72, are both at high risk from the virus because of their age.

This being the case they are understood to be taking all the precautions necessary to protect themselves.

Prince William’s latest speech seems to show him stepping up the mark when more senior royal family members are less able to.

Many royal fans have hoped to hear from Queen Elizabeth II during this difficult time. However, she is yet to address the nation.

Today the Queen will move from London to Windsor Castle a week ahead of her planned Easter break there.

While the Queen remains the rock many Britons look to during times of national crisis, her age means she has to be particularly cautious with public appearances during the current pandemic.

Some adjustments have been made to her calendar to reflect Government guidelines.

Buckingham Palace garden parties have been cancelled this year and the Queen will no longer host Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s wedding reception in May.

On Wednesday it was confirmed the planned state visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan has also been pushed back.

Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s two eldest children Prince George, six and Princess Charlotte, four, will be homeschooled in the coming weeks and months.
