Royal news: How Prince George’s childhood is VERY different to Prince William’s
Prince William knew about his royal destiny from an early age but he is not in a hurry to tell George. The young prince is third in line to the throne behind his dad and grandfather Prince Charles. But the Cambridges want five-year-old George and his siblings Charlotte and Louis to have a normal childhood.
Speaking to the BBC in 2016, William said: “I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same any son does to his father. We are very normal in that sense.
“There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world.
“But right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as a father.”
In contrast, William knew about his royal future early on.
Royal author Andrew Morton described a comment Prince Harry made to his older brother when they were chatting about the future with their mother Diana.
Writing in Diana: In Her Own Words, Mr Morton said: “William and Harry were aware of their destiny.
“On one occasion the boys were discussing their futures with Diana. ‘When I grow up I want to be a policeman and look after you, Mummy,’ said William lovingly.
“Quick as a flash Harry replied, with a note of triumph in his voice, ‘Oh no you can’t, you’ve got to be king.’”
In a Channel 5 documentary about the Queen’s children which aired last month, broadcaster Jeremy Paxman revealed a conversation he had with Diana about her sons.
He said: “We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it.’”
Harry is now sixth in the line of succession, after William’s three children.
Meghan Markle is expecting her first child with Harry, who will be seventh in line to the throne.
