Royal Navy member collapses moments before King presents him with knighthood

King Charles honours military personnel at Windsor Castle

A member of the Royal Navy has been taken unwell during a presentation of the Royal Victorian Order by King Charles II. Royal Navy personnel are being given the order as recognition for their part in Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession. The monarch is hosting a special parade and medal presentation at Windsor Castle for over 150 military personnel. A picture captured the moment one member of the Royal Navy appeared to collapse prior to the presentation.

The personnel were given the Royal Victorian Order by the King in March, as part of his demise honours list, the list published following the death of a Monarch to recognise those who have provided an important personal service to them during their reign and afterwards.

Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September saw approximately 5,949 UK Armed Forces personnel involved in ceremonial duties throughout the course of Operation London Bridge, the code name given to the funeral.

This included 847 from the Royal Navy, 686 from the Royal Air Force and 4,416 from the British Army.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral cost £162 million to the UK taxpayer, it was revealed, with the biggest costs covered by the Home Office which paid £74million towards the event.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport spent another £57million, with foreign royals and world leaders from across the globe coming to Westminster Abbey to pay their respects.

As Britain’s longest-reigning Monarch, over one million people are estimated to have attended the funeral procession, according to transport authorities.

Ahead of the funeral queue’s to see the Queen lying in wait stretched ten miles with wait times of more than 24 hours.

And a total of 2,000 guests, including 100 presidents and heads of Government travelled to Westminster Abbey for the ceremony.
