Royal line of succession: The European royals who have their sights on the British crown
The British Royal Family has many links with other monarchies across the world. But how far down are these royals on the line of succession to the British throne?
The British Royal Family shares an ancestor with many other European monarchies.
It is thought that King George II, who was King from 1727 to 1760, has links to many of the people now head of Europe’s royal families.
This is because King George II’s children and grandchildren married royals from all over the continent.

The children of Queen Victoria also married into other royal families across the world.
Today, the Queen is related to numerous other monarchs across the world.
King Harald V of Norway is second cousins with Queen Elizabeth II.
Technically, Harald has a place in the line of succession to the British throne, but he only ranks in the 60s on the list.
Queen Sofia of Greece and Denmark is a third cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who is also thought to be a friend of the Queen’s, is also a third cousin of the monarch.
Queen Margrethe has spoken warmly of the Queen previously, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Queen Margrethe said: “She’s wonderful. I really admire the way she has lived her life, the way she continues to live her life.

“I’m lucky enough to know her privately and I do enjoy that sense of humour.
“I also think that in the later years, that sense of humour has come across to the general public in Britain much more than it used to.
“And I’m so delighted for her sake.”
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden is also a third cousin.
Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, both descend from Queen Victoria.
Queen Victoria was the pair’s great-great-grandmother, so the pair are also technically very distantly related.
