Archie is believed to have been out of the UK since his parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, went on an extended break to Canada last Autumn. Following their decision to step down from the royal frontline in January, the couple relocated with their son to California, LA, and royal fans have only seen snippets of one-year-old Archie through footage on social media. Meghan and Harry had been scheduled to visit the 94-year-old Queen over the summer, but that has been put on hold due to the pandemic.
Back in March, a source told The Sun: “Harry and Meghan are still desperately hoping that they will be able to come over [for] the summer and spend time with the Queen.”
Yet, in recent weeks, tensions between the Sussexes and the Firm have been brought to the surface again through Meghan’s court case against Associated Newspapers – leaving many commentators questioning if the couple are likely to the UK any time soon.
With coronavirus also tightening its grip on the world, the rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royals does not appear to be closing.
Royal editor Camilla Tominey wrote in The Telegraph last week: “Many are now starting to question what victory [in the court case] may look like if the Sussexes end up burning all their bridges — not just with the Palace but the British public, too.”
Ms Tominey did point out that some insiders believe the “family bond remains strong” between Harry and the Queen.
However, after Meghan’s shocking claim that she felt “unprotected” by the royals during her pregnancy, the royal commentator speculated that the chasm could be widening.
The Duchess of Sussex has also claimed she was “undefended by the institution” when faced with media scrutiny during the court case.
Ms Tominey commented: “Some in royal circles have even started to wonder whether the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will ever see their one-year-old great-grandson Archie again amid the escalating row.”
Royal author Phil Dampier speculated that the Queen would be “absolutely devastated” by Meghan’s accusations.
He explained: “She’ll cope with it but she will feel desperately betrayed.
“She broke with protocol to invite Meghan to Christmas at Sandringham before they were married, and the couple ended up with a beautiful multi-million pound home in the middle of Windsor Great Park.
“Some will be wondering: what more did they want?”

The Queen and Philip are not the only royals who may be feeling glum at the unlikely prospect that the Sussexes will be able to visit any time soon.
Mike Tindall — Harry’s cousin-in-law — voiced his hopes that his two daughters would be able to grow up with Archie several years ago.
He told The Times in May 2019, shortly after Archie’s birth: “Obviously he’s [Harry] godfather to Lena, but we’ve got a great group of young ones in the family now.”
Mike predicted that, along with Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince Louis, Savannah and Isla Phillips, there would be “a good little group” of royal cousins who could grow up together along with Archie.
He added: “And Harry, he’s busy, but he loves playing with them all and he’ll be a good dad.”
However, now that Meghan and Harry live in the US, any chance of the youngest generation of the royals growing up together seems unlikely.
