Royal frown: Prince Louis’ ‘grumpy face’ wins nation’s heart

Kate and Prince William’s youngest son is winning fans every time he is seen out in public. Prince Louis managed to steal the show even on Prince George’s birthday, when the Army in London Twitter account shared a sweet picture of the Cambridges to wish the third-in-line to the throne happy birthday.

The photograph, taken during a charity polo match attended by both the Cambridges and the Sussexes earlier this month, shows a smiling Prince William holding Louis in his arms, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who seems very interested in Domhnall, the canine mascot for the Irish Guards standing next to her.

In the picture there are also two unidentified soldiers.

The snap, shared on Monday to celebrate Prince George, came with the following caption: “The Army In London, including @irish_guards Wolfhound mascot Domhnall, is wishing HRH Prince George a very happy 6th birthday today.

“Our Soldiers are always on duty, ready to serve! #PrinceGeorge”

But what caught the eye of social media users the most wasn’t Princess Charlotte’s sparkling unicorn bag or Prince George’s casual outfit, but rather Louis’s expression.

Among the many Twitter users who pointed out the one-year-old seemed unhappy to be out and about on such a hot day, one wrote: “We have Prince Louis with his grumpy face…no doubt he’d rather be on the run!

“Princess Charlotte with her cute little purse, and the big SIX today for cute Prince George…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!”

Another wrote: “Loving the three separate reactions.

“George behaves by looking at the camera, Louis pouts as if to say ‘get that damn camera out of my face’ and Charlotte doesn’t care because there’s a dog.”

A third added: “Louis’s facial expression is too funny. He’s so not feeling this photo.”

Users pointed out this is not the first “grumpy face” we have seen from Prince Louis.

They wrote: “And Prince Louis’s grumpy face series continues.”

The first official event attended by Prince Louis since his birth in April last year was Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s official birthday celebration.

Prince Louis was spotted by royal fans first peering out one of the windows of Buckingham Palace alongside his brother and sister looking rather annoyed and sucking his thumb.

Later, he debuted on the balcony of the palace in an adorable blue and white outfit looking less than impressed by the beautiful plane flyover organised by the RAF.

His hilarious expression reminded many of one Prince George used to have on his face often when he was younger.

One Twitter user wrote: “Oh yeah… The return of Grumpy George’s expression à la Prince Louis. I guess it’s run in the family.”
